General Stark character jug in a Rockingham finish produced by Lyman, Fenton & Co of Bennington, Vermont, circa 1850. Major-General John Stark (1728 - 1822) was an American military officer who served during the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. He became known as the "Hero of Bennington" for his exemplary service at the Battle of Bennington in 1777.
