Game Keeper thimble produced by Tony Wood Studio of Fenton, England, in 1986 for Scotland Direct. A game keeper is a person who manages an area of countryside such as woodland, moorland, waterway, or farmland, to make sure there is enough game for shooting and stalking, or fish for angling, and acts as guide to those pursuing them. Game keepers are also employed to breed and protect game, typically for a large estate, and who takes care of the wild animals or birds that are kept on someone's land for hunting. The plaque on the rear of the thimble has the artist's initials and year of production.
