French Politician toby jug - Faience d'Art de la Sorgue circa 1945

French Politician toby jug produced by Faience d'Art de la Sorgue of France circa 1945. This is a large size modern majolica satirical toby jug, or barbotine, depicting a French politician. With "A hue et a dia" on the shield in front of him, loosely translated as "in all directions" or "in opposite directions", this politician obviously eagerly goes along with the prevailing political winds. This jug's design was inspired by the early 1900s jugs of the French pottery of Onnaing.
