Francisco Ferrer majolica character jug produced by Onnaing of Onnaing, France, circa 1905, model number 762. Francisco Ferrer (1859-1909) was a Spanish anarchist who founded the Escola Moderna or Modern School for middle class children. This jug shows Ferrer wearing a courrone de laurriers or laurel wreath which symbolizes the glory of the wearer. The jug has "VIVE L'ECOLE MODERNE Fco Ferrer" incised on its front. The jug can be found in several colorways.
