Flower Seller toby jug large green - Sandyford Pottery circa 1955

Flower Seller toby jug in a large size wearing a green dress and pink shawl, produced by Sandyford Pottery of Tunstall, England, circa 1955. A flower seller was someone who sold flowers on the streets of Victorian England to earn a living. It was quite common to see people selling various goods or services on the streets of large cities. Street sellers, or ‘costermongers’, could be found flogging literally anything you can think of, whether it be fish, soup, clothes, drinks, homemade items, or even flowers. An umbrella forms the handle of this jug.
