Fisherman character jug - Elijah Cotton circa 1975

Fisherman character jug produced by Elijah Cotton of Hanley, England, circa 1975 with its Lord Nelson Ware tradename. A fisher, or fisherman, is someone who captures fish and other animals from a body of water or gathers shellfish. Worldwide, there are about 38 million commercial and subsistence fishers and fish farmers. Fishermen may be professional or recreational. Fishing has existed as a means of obtaining food since the Mesolithic period. A fish forms the handle of this jug. This was produced from the Shorter & Sons Admiral character jug molds.
