Fat Boy toby jug - Sandizell Porcelain circa 1965

Fat Boy toby jug tiny size produced by Sandizell Porcelain Factory of Bavaria, Germany, circa 1965. Joe, or the Fat Boy, is one of the inimitable characters depicted in the 1837 novel The Pickwick Papers by Charles Dickens. The servant of Mr. Wardle, his rotund form is no doubt due to his gargantuan appetite and somnolence. He falls asleep at every opportunity despite the calls of jolly old Wardle. Eatables and drinkables are all that will raise the Fat Boy from his slumber. His smile and downward glaze portrayed herein are undoubtedly due to his anticipation of a large helping of rook pie. The Fat Boy toby jug was produced from Sitzendorfer Porzellanmanufaktur molds.
