Eric Knowles character jug modeled by David B. Biggs and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, in a 1999 limited edition of 1,500 commissioned by Lawleys By Post. Eric Knowles (1953- ) is one of those rare individuals possessed with a gift for sharing his considerable knowledge in ways that make him easy to understand and a natural after-dinner entertainer. Director of Ceramics and Works of Art at Bonhams, the London auction house, he is a leading authority on nineteenth and twentieth century decorative arts, European and Oriental ceramics from the seventeenth to the twentieth centuries, and the glass of Tiffany and Lalique. But he probably is better known for his regular appearances in the BBC television series "The Antiques Roadshow", where he easily dispenses accurate evaluations on a variety of antiquities through his encyclopedic knowledge and ready wit. From his parents he inherited his love of antiques, and his keen interest took him swiftly to the top of Bonhams, culminating in a full Directorship in 1985. An owl jar, coffee pot and plate form the handle of the jug.
