Duchess toby jug - Tony Wood Studio 1983

Duchess toby jug produced by Tony Wood Studio of Fenton, England, in a 1983 limited edition for Perennis and offered on a subscription basis. "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" is an 1865 English children's novel by Lewis Carroll. It details the story of a girl named Alice who falls through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world of anthropomorphic creatures. Carroll does not describe the Duchess physically in much detail, although as stated, "Alice did not much like keeping so close to her: first, because the Duchess was very ugly; and secondly, because she was exactly the right height to rest her chin upon Alice’s shoulder, and it was an uncomfortably sharp chin." The Duchess is an antagonist of The Queen of Hearts. In her first appearance, the Duchess seems nearly as unpleasant as the Queen herself, but later on treats Alice with friendliness and respect. This is one of sixteen toby jug in the Alice in Wonderland Series.
