American Toby Jug Museum 

Drunken Sal toby jug in black dress produced by Davenport in 1836. Wearing a tattered black 18th century dress white mob cap and large brimmed hat Drunken Sal personifies the gin drinking women of the day. She is a slutish, leering woman sitting on a tree stump with a branch forming the handle. She is holding a glass in her left hand and clay pipe in her right with smoke wafting from the bowl. The impressed Davenport mark dates this piece to 1836.
