Dressed Cat toby jug - Mottahedeh circa 1960

Dressed Cat toby jug produced by Mottahedeh in Portugal circa 1960. This well-dressed cat is walking across town to visit his grandchildren. He is carrying his copy of The Little Prince to read to them. The Little Prince is a novella written and illustrated by French aristocrat, writer, and military pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupury, first published in the United States by Reynal & Hitchcock in April 1943. The story follows a young prince who visits various planets in space, including Earth, and addresses themes of loneliness, friendship, love, and loss. Despite its style as a children's book, The Little Prince makes observations about life, adults, and human nature. The cat's tail curls up to form the handle of the jug.
