Dr. Johnson thimble - Tony Wood Studio 1986

Dr. Johnson thimble produced by Tony Wood Studio of Fenton, England, in 1986 for Scotland Direct. Dr. Johnson, also known as the Drunken Parson, can be found as a toby jug seated and looking to his right in a stupor with a leering expression, his tricorn hat askew on his head. He is attempting to pour wine from the jug in his right hand into the wine glass in his left. A parson is an ordained Christian person responsible for a small area, typically a parish. The term was formerly often used for some Anglican clergy and, more rarely, for ordained ministers in some other churches. This is the character jug interpretation of the Drunken Parson, or Dr. Johnson, toby jug. The plaque on the rear of the thimble has the artist's initials and year of production.
