Doc Holliday character jug modeled by Stanley J. Taylor and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, between 1985-1989. John Henry Holliday (1851-1887) was a lawyer's son reared in Georgia. Upon graduating in dentistry he was diagnosed with consumption and moved west to drier climes. Soon discovering his prowess at the poker table, he drifted through the West gaining a reputation as a drinker, fighter and cold-blooded killer. While in John Shanssey's saloon in Fort Griffin, Texas, Doc first met Wyatt Earp; the pair quickly became fast friends. Many believed that Holliday liked to kill, but that was not true. He was simply a hot-tempered Southerner who stood aside for no man. Bat Masterson said of him, "Doc Holliday was afraid of nothing on Earth." Years later Doc joined the Earp brothers in the celebrated gunfight at the OK Corral in Dodge City. After more years of drifting, Doc Holliday died of tuberculosis in a Colorado sanatorium. The handle of the jug is a pistol in its holster and dice.
