Devil character jug - Department 56 circa 2000

Devil character jug produced by Department 56 of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, circa 2000. The devil is the personification of evil as it is conceived in various cultures and religious traditions. He is seen as the objectification of a hostile and destructive force. Jeffrey Burton Russell states that the different conceptions of the devil can be summed up as a principle of evil independent from God, an aspect of God, a created being turning evil (such as a fallen angel), and a symbol of human evil.
