Danny Boy toby jug modeled by Peter Dunn and produced by Kingston Pottery of Hull, England, circa 1980. "Danny Boy" is a song with lyrics written by English lawyer Frederic Weatherly in 1910, and set to the traditional Irish melody of "Londonderry Air" in 1913. Weatherly gave the song to the vocalist Elsie Griffin, who made it one of the most popular songs of the early 1900s. Ernestine Schumann-Heink produced the first recording of "Danny Boy" in 1915. The lyrics to the song begin with "Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling, From glen to glen, and down the mountain side. The summer's gone, and all the roses falling, It's you, it's you must go and I must bide."
