Dancing Bear with Stick and Tambourine majolica toby jug produced by Poet-Laval of France circa 1900. Since the Middle Ages, the Dancing Bear has been a popular form of entertainment across Europe. These bears were highly trained to perform a variety of tricks. This Dancing Bear plays his tambourine and pounds out a beat with his stick at his trainer's command. Wearing a collar around his neck attached to a chain which forms the handle of the jug. This toby jug is known in various colorways.
