American Toby Jug Museum 

D'Artagnan toby jug produced by Staffordshire Fine Ceramics of Tunstall, England, circa 1975. The young Gascon, D'Artagnan, joins Aramis, Athos and Porthos in Alexandre Dumas's tale of chivalry, "The Three Musketeers". D'Artagnan's historical counterpart was born around 1615 and named Charles de Batz-Castelmore. He had an illustrious career in espionage for Cardinal Mazarin, the king's personal advisor. Due to his faithful service, Louis XIV entrusted him with many secret and delicate assignments that required complete discretion. D'Artagnan is famous for his connection with the arrest of Nicolas Fouquet, Louis XIV's finance commissioner, for pilfering the royal treasury. D'Artagnan, in the hands of Dumas, travels to Paris as a young man to seek his fortune. Rising through the ranks, he finally becomes Lieutenant Captain of the First Company of Musketeers. Initially he disputes and duels with the other musketeers; however, they soon become loyal companions and comrades-in-arms. This united band displays courage and daring as they share many an adventure in this romantic novel and its sequels.
