Cockerel teapot produced by Minton of Stoke-on-Trent, England, in a 1998 limited edition of 2,500. The chicken is a domesticated red junglefowl species that is originally from India. Rooster and cock are terms for adult male birds, and a younger male may be called a cockerel. An adult female bird is called a hen, and a sexually immature female is called a pullet. People keep chickens primarily as a source of food, consuming both their meat and eggs, or as pets. Traditionally, they were also bred for cockfighting. This teapot is based on a Minton original design from around 1870. His mouth is the spout of the teapot and the handle is formed by his tail feathers.
