Coalman toby jug designed by Peter Jackson and produced by Franklin Porcelain of London, England, in 1980 limited edition and sold on a subscription basis. The Coalman sells lumps of coal for people to use to heat their home. Very common in Victorian London, street vendors sold merchandise or services that were easily transported; the term is synonymous with costermonger or peddler. Street vendors often advertised by loud street cries or chants, and bantered with customers, to attract attention and enhance sales. This Coalman cries out, "Coals for your fire!" This is one of twelve toby jugs in the Cries of London Series.
