Charlie Cheer The Clown toby jug - Royal Doulton 1987 - 1991

Charlie Cheer The Clown 3/4 body toby jug designed by William K. Harper and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, from 1987 to 1991. Clancey's Traveling Circus comes frequently to Doultonville, and with it, Charlie Cheer, the popular clown who with his fellow entertainers amuse the audiences with their crazy tricks and mishaps. Charlie comes from a long line of clowns who formerly traveled from town to town with their wives and families in elaborately carved and decorated wooden caravans drawn by shire horses. In these they lived and slept. Charlie's mother was a famous trapeze artist of breathtaking ability who was born in Doultonville and became fascinated by the glamor of circus entertainment. Charlie is a white-faced clown not unlike Emmet Kelly. This is one of twenty-five Doultonville toby jugs.
