Blackamoors, or Black Moors, were people of color from North Africa who worked as servants and slaves in wealthy European households in the 1500s to the late 1800s. Blackamoor is a European art style from the Early Modern period depicting highly stylized figures, usually African males but sometimes other non-European races, in subservient or exotic form.
