Black Dog character jug Guild - Tony Wood Studio 1991

Black Dog character jug produced by Tony Wood Studio of Fenton, England, in a 1991 limited edition for Scottish Direct for the Guild of Wood Pottery Collectors. Black Dog is a fictional character appearing in Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel "Treasure Island". Black Dog is the pale pirate, missing two fingers, who confronts Billy Bones at the Admiral Benbow Inn. Jim also sees Black Dog talking to Tom Morgan at Long John Silver's bar, the Spy-Glass.
Luckily for Long John Silver, he's quick enough to pretend to throw Black Dog out of the bar in outrage for being a pirate, thus soothing Jim's suspicion that Long John Silver might also be an acquaintance of Black Dog. Black Dog's long braided pony tail forms the handle of the jug. This was produced from the molds of J. Fryer Limited.
