Beefeater character jug - Royal Doulton CJOY 2010

Beefeater character jug modeled by Timothy Potts and produced by Royal Doulton of Burslem, England, as the 2010 Character Jug of the Year. Beefeater is the popular name for the Yeomen Warders, ceremonial guardians of Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London. They are responsible for watching over prisoners in the Tower and safeguarding the British crown jewels, but in practice they act as tour guides and are a tourist attraction in their own right. They wear red and gold uniforms, white ruffles and black hats. Yeoman Warders, formed at Henry VIII's coronation, began guarding the Tower in 1485. A raven, the Crown jewels, the Tower of London, and a flag form the handle of the jug.
