Banksy's Monkey Laugh Now figurine in a trial colorway produced by Kevin Francis Ceramics of Stoke-on-Trent, England, in a 2014 limited edition of 100. Banksy monkeys have become an instantly recognizable motif in the graffiti writer's oeuvre. He cleverly uses monkeys to make political points from all angles. "Keep it real" is one of Banksy's most famous and popular themes: animals as a metaphor and comment on human greed and stupidity. The monkey carries a message to be 'real' - authentic and genuine - perhaps alluding to the honesty of animals and the dishonesty of people, particularly those in authority. "Lying to the police is never wrong" expresses his feeling of challenging authority and the status quo.
