Bacchus character jug stoneware - England circa 1880

Bacchus salt glazed stoneware character jug produced in England circa 1880. Bacchus is the Roman god of wine and intoxication. Around 200 BCE the Bacchanalia annual festival was held in his honor featuring excessive drinking orgies and criminal behavior. The letter B is incised on the bottom of the jug.
