Bacchus character jug produced by William Kent of Burslem, England, circa 1810. Bacchus is the Roman god of wine and intoxication. Around 200 BCE the Bacchanalia annual festival was held in his honor featuring excessive drinking orgies and criminal behavior. Note the frog hiding inside the character jug.
