Angus & Duff character jug - Small World circa 1980

Angus & Duff character jug designed by John Tasker and produced by Small World of Nairn, Highland, Scotland circa 1980 in a limited edition of 5,000. Angus is an English language masculine given name, an Anglicised form of the Irish and Scottish Gaelic name Aonghas, which is composed of Celtic elements meaning "one" and "choice". Short forms of the name include Gus, which may be lengthened to Gussie, and Irish Naos. The earliest form of the given name Angus occurs in Adomnán's "Vita Columbae" as Oinogusius. This name likely refers to a Pictish king whose name is recorded variously as Onnust and Hungus. Angus' faithful companion Duff forms the handle of the jug.
