American Indian character jug produced by Clinchfield Artware Pottery of Erwin, Tennessee, circa 1950. Typically indigenous peoples of Canada and United States, Native American Indians are members of any of the aboriginal peoples of the Western Hemisphere, although the term often connotes only those groups whose original territories were in present-day Canada and the United States. A tomahawk forms the handle of the jug. Founded by the Cash family in 1945, the Clinchfield Artware Pottery was renamed the Cash Family Pottery in the mid 1950s.
