Short character jug produced by Salisbury China of Longton, England, circa 1940. Short is modern era jester who entertains using varied skills. This includes skills such as music, storytelling, juggling, acrobatics, joke telling and other similar skills. There have been many examples of jesters in history, fiction, and other mediums. A jester marotte forms the handle of the jug. A marotte is a prop stick or scepter with a carved head on it. The word is borrowed from the French, where it signifies either a fool's literal "bauble" or a fad.  Short stands 4" tall.
